Finally I have some days off after having written five of my eight exams. Besides using it for learning for the other three tests I hope I can put some time into further developing blog4j. However, I also have some books to read so it’s no holidays yet.
I finally managed to release an improved version of my Java wizard framework containing more constructors for better behavior control and featuring a few bug fixes. Furthermore, a Spanish resource bundle is provided. Please give it a try!
I also added a section on further internationalizing jwizz to the developer manual.
I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas despite the tragic developments in South Asia. I used the time to recollect some energy in order to be prepared for my exams that start in less than a month. Soon the next version of jwizz will be released featuring the addition of new constructors enabling a more fine-grained control of the wizard’s behavior.
This is the last week of studies in this year, so everybody is cooling down (even the weather) - lectures are canceled, fewer people are crowding the cafeteria, etc. Christmas preparations are on their way, parties are being arranged, everyone is busy.
I recently got a request for enhancing jwizz in order to fix certain bugs with modal dialogs, I am already making plans but I need some spare time to put them into practise…
It has almost been a year that I’ve been ill but now it got me again. This is why I hate winter… I would really like to take a long hot bath but, alas, I am lacking a tub. Fortunately we’ve got a holiday tomorrow so that I can regain some power by just sleeping longer and staying inside. Stay healthy!
Now this is really annoying me: My computer clock is not in time, it is too slow. Everything was fine until we changed from summer time to winter time. Since then it seems to lose a few seconds every minute and I don’t even have the slightest clue what to do or where to search for answers…
Flat share parties are some strange sort of event - you don’t know the majority of the guests (and you don’t really want to), you wonder whether you are the only guy with short hair (maybe hair growth is stimulated by smoking shit), and you ask yourself whether there is anybody having only a little sense for music.
At least the church agent trying to talk me into subscribing to religion magazines didn’t wake me when ringing at lunch time. I don’t open anymore, I just wait until he gives in and leaves…
So this was Halloween and much more important: finally a weekend after this week! Besides, I had the luck to get into a Spanish class after two other people decided not to take this chance. However, the exercise book cost me € 21, not a real bargain, is it? Unfortunately this means even less time for private projects and other activities.
Election time is coming nearer, I am pretty excited about the developments and I can’t wait to see first results…
A professor of mine teaching Operating Systems didn’t appear to one of his lectures. A few hours later he sent an email to the lecture mailing list apologizing, saying that he confused the lecture’s starting time. Fortunately I overslept…
University starts again and I finally managed to subscribe to English as a minor! Unfortunately my timetable is more crowded than ever although I didn’t even make it into the Spanish class. This means less spare time available for my projects. However, I hope I’ll soon be able to put up a project page for blog4j…
Minor subject enrollment at Technical University Dresden is a pain in the ass! Since a couple of days I am trying to subscribe to English as a minor for Computer Science. However, the information presented at different web sites is contradictory or insufficient. Furthermore, one hand does not seem to know what the other is doing and so I ended up writing several mails to the responsibles with the result that I am not much smarter than before. If all else fails I don’t see any other way than choosing a different subject. Unfortunately the choice isn’t very big…
A couple of weeks ago I discovered a website offering a dozen free music streams without any commercials or news interrupting them. I am particularly thankful for the Salsa stream although listening to it all day long can get boring. However, for an hour or two a day these latin sounds can work wonders, especially when it is raining and getting cold outside. Have a look and do the Cha Cha Cha!
Due to the feedback I got about jwizz, I decided to put together a small developer manual using DocBook. It contains everything necessary to build your own wizard in a few steps. Please have a look and let me know if you are missing something important.
Yesterday I enjoyed a marvelous theater performance showing the life of the Comedian Harmonists. They had to give four encores because the audience was raging…
Semester pause is nearly over and I have to enroll in new courses, choose a minor subject, take care of schedules, etc.
The default blog4j implementation is being tested and parts of it already work. I will set up a project page in a couple of days…
Alas, one half of the holidays is over and the first results of my exams arrive. Work on my projects slowly progresses while new ideas are coming to my mind…
Recently I saw “I, Robot” and I was pretty impressed - it is much better than Spielberg’s “AI” if you ask me. I love going to the movies and tonight the next film is scheduled, it is called “Sommersturm”.
After having read some API specifications for Blogger, MetaWeblog and MovableType I managed to set up a local CVS server and started modelling. The three APIs mentioned will of course be supported by blog4j. After I have finished laying the grounds, a decent graphical user interface will follow.
The second maintainance release of jwizz is available, providing bugfixes for Look&Feel-related issues on Windows: this version displays the wizard’s icon in the step list correctly and enforces minimum sizes in the layout manager. All developers are encouraged to update to the current version.
Now that I have completed my time-consuming practical course in Software Technology, I will finally be able to do some polishing on the website. Furthermore, there still needs to be done a lot before the final version of Columba 1.0 will be published. And as I already remarked, a new project - blog4j - will most likely see the light of day. However, before I concentrate on this, I will release a second bugfix version of jwizz, mainly providing corrections for layout errors on Windows.
I am planning to start a new project, called blog4j. It will be similar to Zempt, but written in Java. I found a project on SourceForge aiming at this target, too: Jericho. However, I was neither satisfied with the functionality offered nor with the graphical user interface presented.
